Vinyasa Flow Pt.1: Breaking It Down Without Props

It all begins with a Sun Salutation. The Sun Salutation is not a single pose, but rather a series of interconnected poses designed to be performed in a continuous sequence. This sequence is an essential part of a Vinyasa Flow. If you join a yoga class, you will undoubtedly see the flow of a sun salutation as part of the overall dance.

A Sun Salutation is comprised of several exact poses. Here, we will focus specifically on: Chaturanga Dandasana and Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, or Upward Facing Dog. Depending on the space in which you are practicing (home, studio, outdoors), props may not be easily available.

Let’s break down how to modify and fully execute a Chaturanga flow without the use of props. You’ll need a yoga mat and space to practice.
